金閣寺 (Kinkakuji) is a popular Buddhist temple in Japan. I love the reflection of the temple on the pond that surrounds it; the pond is called 鏡湖池 (Kyokochi, literally mirror pond). I came here in mid-December. The red, yellow and orange autumn leaves had disappeared. It’s best to visit this place when the fall colors are at their peak or when it is snowing.
I’m not sure what this bird is called, but I took this picture at this place. I found it amazing that it stood motionless for several minutes on the rock in the middle of the pond. Any ornithologist out there who can help me identify this bird?
